Thermal Insulation

Approved Document L (Scotland - Part J) - Conservation of fuel and power

Recent changes to Building Regulations and requirements laid out in the Code for Sustainable Homes, place increasing importance on reducing energy use in buildings.

The new regulations introduce stringent energy efficiency requirements for both new buildings and renovations to existing buildings.

Compliance is based on the thermal performance of a building as a whole, which makes the process more complex.

Acoustic Insulation

Approved Document E (Scotland - Part H) - Resistance to the passage of sound

The legislation sets standards for the acoustic performance of all dwellings, including both new build and those where there has been a material change of use, such as a flat conversion.

Minimum performance standards are set for airborne sound insulation and impact sound insulation for walls, floors, partitions and stairs.

Compliance is regulated through pre-completion acoustic testing in some cases, or meeting the test values set out in Robust Details, depending on the structure involved.

We offer an extensive range of products that will help you comply with all regulations, including the latest innovations from leading manufacturers.

Fire Resistance

Approved Document B (Scotland - Part E) - Fire Safety

The latest regulations cover both dwellings and other buildings (non-dwellings), and includes areas such as fire detection, alarm systems and the internal spread of fire.

In order to maximise the level of safety afforded to occupants, materials used to line any partition, wall and ceiling must adequately resist the spread of flames across the surface and slow down the level of heat release.

Most insulation products and boards already offer a high level of fire resistance, but there are also specialist products on the market which offer greater levels of performance, such as fire resistant plasterboards, specially designed for use in higher risk areas.

We provide a wide product range that will help you comply, including a full range of fire doors and door sets, panic hardware and ironmongery - which is also a legal requirement in the legislation.

Moisture Resistance

Boards are available for areas that require additional protection from moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms. This may also need to be combined with other requirements such as acoustic insulation between a bedroom and en-suite.

Vapour Control

The use of hot water in bathrooms can create moisture vapour in the air.

If left uncontrolled, this can pass through ceilings and hit colder air causing condensation to form on the opposite side of the ceiling in the roof or loft space - which can in turn lead to dampness and deterioration.

We offer a full range of vapour control boards and vapour barriers to prevent this problem.

Impact Resistance

Some high-traffic areas such as corridors, hallways and stairs need added protection against knocks and dents.

Durable boards are available to prolong the life of walls by giving greater resistance to impact.
